This study aims to examine the application of the mind mapping method in improving students’ understanding of purification (tata cara bersuci) in the subject of Islamic Religious Education and Character (PAI dan Budi Pekerti) for fourth-grade students at SDN 151 Loka. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection phases. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and performance tests. The findings demonstrate that the mind mapping method effectively enhances students’ conceptual understanding and learning participation. In Cycle I, only 33.34% of students achieved the minimum mastery criteria, while in Cycle II the mastery level increased significantly to 88.89%. The improvement occurred because mind mapping enabled students to visualize learning materials, collaborate actively in groups, and recall steps of purification more easily. These results indicate that mind mapping is an effective pedagogical approach for strengthening learning outcomes in PAI and Budi Pekerti, particularly in topics requiring procedural understanding.
